What is Pets In Need?
Pets In Need is a program partnership between UCAN and the Freestore Foodbank (FSFB).  The program targets
pets from households in the most underserved-areas of Greater Cincinnati to provide basic veterinary care for
cats and dogs whose owners cannot otherwise afford it.

Who qualifies?
Individuals who qualify for the FSFB’s services are eligible.  To qualify, household income must be no more than 200%
of the the federal poverty guideline.  Vouchers are distributed by both the FSFB and by UCAN.  Proof of income is required.

Where and when are the clinics held?
Clinics are held on certain Sundays at the UCAN Nonprofit Spay Neuter Clinic, 1230 W. 8th Street, in Queensgate.

Are appointments required?
No, however vouchers are required.  Only a limited number of vouchers are issued for each clinic.  Clinics are first come,
first served and numbers are handed out beginning one hour before the start time of each clinic.

What is done at these clinics?
These are basic wellness clinics. Pets are examined by veterinarians and given needed vaccinations and other basic
preventative veterinary care such as de-worming and flea and ear mite treatments. The program also includes a Continued Care
Fund
to be used to refer pets requiring more extensive care to local veterinarians who have agreed to accept referrals from the program.

What is not done at these clinics?
Pets In Need does not treat sick or injured pets, or those with chronic medical conditions. No blood testing or x-rays are done.
Cases requiring care beyond
what the clinics offer may, at the discretion of the attending veterinarian, be referred for continued care.

Are Pets In Need clinics free?
No, there is a minimal charge of $10 for the first pet and $5 for each additional pet.  There is a limit of 3 pets per household per clinic.
For puppies and kittens, return visits for booster shots are $5 per animal.

How is Pets In Need funded?
Pets In Need had been funded initially through a $30,000 grant to UCAN from the Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust, a Key Bank Trust.
In addition, a grant from P&G PetCare specifically helps to support the Continued Care Fund.
